Diagnosing a Bad Inverter in RV

Karen Torres3 weeks ago47 views
Half of the outlets are not powered, and the green light on the affected inverter is not lit. The Vegatouch indicates that inverter number two is not powered or charging. Shore power is connected and both lines are confirmed to be outputting 120V. The breaker/thermal on the Magna Inverter chassis is not popped. Questions include whether AC flow works if the inverter/charger is faulty, if the AC power doesn’t flow through during an internal failure of the Magna, how to test if the inverter is faulty, and whether there are GFCIs in the rig.

Remove the wire cover and test for 120 volt in, that will come from a circuit breaker. If the transfer relay failed, it would fail in one of the modes. GFCIs protect outlets, not inverter/chargers; any GFCI will be after the inverter.

The inverter does not power any outlets with the shore power disconnected. There is a manual power button on the inverter that does not work.

Try switching the battery disconnect on and off.

Check for 12V before and after the catastrophe fuse and the 12V rotary switch.

If there is an internal failure of the unit, the AC flow through can also fail. None of the AC outlets powered through that inverter work.

The catastrophe fuse is in with the batteries. There are shops that will repair inverters, but the diagnosis and parts may be more than a new inverter.
