Dometic Penguin 2 Fan Motor Not Starting

Edward Coleman1 month ago48 views
The front Dometic Penguin 2 fan motor does not start on its own. The motor, starter capacitor, relay, and run capacitor have been replaced. The fan operates when manually assisted.

Sounds like a low voltage issue.

Check the schematic for your unit. Use a DVOM to check for 110v on wires going to the fan. Check the neutral. A bad neutral or hot anywhere will cause starting issues. If you can spin the motor by hand and it runs without tripping the breaker, the issue is likely start voltage. Check the board and wiring as you have replaced other components.

Check if the hamster wheel continues to spin or has resistance when pushed. The run capacitor is typically the only capacitor for the fan. If the fan runs when you push start it, the capacitor may be faulty.

The starter capacitor may be for the fan. Consider ordering a run capacitor as it might be the issue.

The fan motor run capacitor is likely faulty as symptoms suggest. Replacing it can resolve the issue.

To check a capacitor with an ohm meter, read the ohms one way, then reverse polarity. If it doesn't read low and then climb high, it is burnt out.
